Rhona on a hill somewhere in southern Iceland
Kenya’s Video Shoot
September 4-7, 2007
Reykjavik, Iceland

Being part of the Rhona Fox crew means different things to different people. Her goal of helping others reach for the stars is one that is inspiring to me, and enticed me, to join the team in the first place. While amidst constant professionals, there is still a family-like atmosphere that makes work here more like play. I’ve been a crewmember on numerous projects, from music videos to commercials to sports and political events.

We were recently called upon by Victor Lewis (VicRae Inc.) to produce an EPK and music video for his client, singer/songwriter Kenya. Kenya is an R&B/soul singer with a voice like an angel and a star on the rise. She also just happens to live in Iceland. So the Fox Inc. production crew packed our bags and headed over the pond to meet Ms. Kenya.

We had a tight schedule to keep and the weather was less than cooperative but Kenya was a pleasure to work with. Helping director Bill Parker achieve his vision for the music video required a lot of set up and tear down of equipment but we were more than up to the challenge. Actor Leon and stylist Chance Morrison also made the trip with us to work on the video.

For most, the lack of sleep, long hours and set-ups in the cold September rain on the streets and hills of Iceland would be a PITA, but we thrived on it. It seemed the tougher the situation, the more we laughed and the better our creative team performed. Kenya was a trooper, performing her song standing in front of a waterfall, in probably upper 40-degree weather, while the rain came pouring down. We prayed the camera would stay dry with the protective rain gear we had on it, and the garbage bag over that just to be safe. It did, and the shot was SPECTACULAR.

Bill was pleased with our work, and Kenya and her family quickly became part of our own. We were showered with compliments for our level of professionalism and commitment to the project, but really the pleasure was all ours. It’s more than just a job for us; it’s our passion. This was certainly a whirlwind experience and next time a company memo should go out to everyone with a warning not to wear flip-flops to Iceland. Rhona, what were you thinking?!

P.S. We didn’t see any ice in Iceland.
